[part 3] Fox is getting his sight..eye details are the most important. Don't miss this one9/22/2016 We will have a close look at creating eyes in oil paint. Human eyes are a challenge but dog eyes might be even more complex to get right. However, Jen to the rescue. She will show you exactly how to do it. Art Tip #1 If you need to paint a straight line (like I needed for this light saber) but you don't have a steady hand, you can use painters tape. Yup, the same one they sell at home depot for painting walls! It will protect what you don't want to get paint on and stand as a guide, just make sure to only apply it over paint that is 100% dry! Art Tip #2 I've had to learn to see slight variations in colors, a brown dog is rarely JUST a brown dog. There are reds, oranges, yellows, and even blue tints. If you want to try to develop an eye for it, look closely at something, don't think of the color you THINK it is, but rather try to notice colors outside of that. Does anything look blue? How about yellow? Is the yellow more orange or more green hued? I've used ivory black, yellow ochre, vandyke brown, cadmium yellow, titanium white, and indian red just for Fox's hair so far! Art Tip #3 You may have heard that the eyes are the window to the soul, I believe that 100%. I take more time on a dog's eyes than any other part of the painting because it is so important to get them right. They aren't just eyes, they are what the dog is thinking and feeling in that moment. What is the dog's personality? What is their voice? Dogs communicate so much to us with just one look and I want to capture that on canvas.
