From Worms to Riches

I've been thinking about worms since the full worm moon of March. Initially I wasn't excited to illustrate this moon, but then I reflected on the important role worms play in our health and ecosystem. It began to feel like a special way to pay them tribute for the work that they do.

In the world of gardening, if you want a thriving garden, you start by 'growing' your soil. Nutrients go from your soil, into your plants, and onward to you when you eat them. The more nourishing your soil, the more nourishing your meal. This is where the worms come into play. Worms excel at breaking down food waste into nutrient dense castings that they distribute through the soil. It's called vermicomposting!

Let's talk vermicomposting. There are other methods of composting, but few are as rich and effortless as working with the worms. To create my vermicomposting system, I bought two 5 gallon buckets and drilled holes throughout. I dug one hole in the center of each garden bed, added leaves to the bottom of the hole and the bucket.
The buckets are now ready to toss in alternating layers of food scraps and leaves. Add some worms from Rocky Mountain Soil Stewardship and the in-bed composting systems are in operation. Feed the worms, who feed the soil, that feeds the plants, which feeds you - it's a life cycle!

Cover it all with the lid and top with a cute hedgehog critter - because why not? Welcome home little worms and thank you for tending to my garden soil.

"Anything is possible with sunshine and a little pink."
– Lilly Pulitzer
It is mine and it has to be pink, that is the first thought I had about this kitchen. A home is an outward representation of the people who live within it. It should take the best of you and reflect it back to create a warm and safe place for you to create a life within it's walls.

I went with the color 'Vintage Tea Rose' by Behr in the trim and cabinet version of their paint. Then I had the added challenge of incorporating my love of lemons and indigo colored Le Creuset cookware into the overall theme.

I created this pattern custom for my kitchen. The pink, yellow, and blue used is an perfect match to my paint, lemon decor, and le creuset cookware.

I named it Pink Mint Lemons and it is available as fabric, wallpaper, and home decor products at spoonflower. I started by ordering fabric to sew tea towels, but you can also order pre-made ones.

I love crystals, so I made these custom knobs out of citrine. Citrine was the obvious choice because it is yellow, but less obvious is it's associated meaning of prosperity and joy. What better way to infuse positive vibes into the kitchen?

I added real gold leafing on the back of each stone for a extra touch of luxury and prosperity.

This is the first section of cabinets finished with one of the two tea towels I sewed. This project is still in progress so stay tuned for updates and the final reveal.
